Assessing and managing risks to your collections
A two-day workshop
October 24 – 25, 2018.

This two-day workshop, Dr. Robert Waller will explain how to assess and manage risks to collections based on an integrated approach of estimating damage and loss and mitigation of damage and loss to cultural property.
Workshop participants will learn:
- How to identify risks to collections, the agents of change responsible, and risk event frequencies from rare to continual.
- How to evaluate relative importance of each risk.
- How to identify means of controlling risks by using different methods at different levels.
- How to develop and evaluate risk mitigation strategies, their costs, benefits, risks, and best option for each situation.
Wednesday, 24 October— Part One: Assessing Risks to Collections
- Agents of change and the identification of risks to collections
- Evaluating risks by frequency and severity
- Parameters for estimating risks—fraction susceptible, loss in value, extent, and probability
- Calculating the magnitudes of risk
Thursday, 25 October—Part Two: Managing Risks to Collections
- Identifying methods for controlling risks
- Levels of risks and the application of control methods
- Developing risk mitigation strategies
- Evaluating the relative costs, risks, and benefits of mitigation strategies
The workshop is free and open to staff of area museums, libraries, and archives, risk management specialists, and facilities managers.
Advanced registration is required as space is limited.
